About

Biography

I received my bachelors degrees in physics and mathematics from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, where I also researched multiple populations in globular clusters with Jason Smolinski. In 2021, I was awarded a Goldwater Scholarship based in part on this research.

Currently, I am a first-year astronomy graduate student at the Institute for Astronomy. At the IfA, I am a NSF Graduate Research Fellow working with Ben Shappee on probing the progenitor systems of type Ia supernovae as well as using type Ia supernovae as distance indicators.

Outside of astronomy, I enjoy watching and playing hockey, hiking, and the occasional game of chess.
